Over the past two weeks I have had a little time to devote to personal art. These are two new pieces that have just been completed. Could this be the next evolution of my ongoing cluster flux art? In the past the cluster flux work has been entirely line driven using only black and white. These started out exactly the same way, interconnected lines, and patterns, placed in a minimalistic field that develop into clusters of visual information. This time I was curious to see how they would look if I blocked in shapes with color. I tried to keep everything as flat as possible with only small hints of dimensionality to try and minimize the association with the world of tangible objects. Even so, I still think that these fall in to the category of character based or figurative art. One more so than the other. In the end I guess they exist outside of the cluster flux series, as the cluster flux are pure abstractions. Either way they sure were fun to make.

I recently finished the illustrations for this summers advertising campaign for Utahs Hogle Zoo. You can check out the animated television ad on my Illoz page. Once again the tremendously talented Kirsten Lepore made it all move.
I was sent this great photo from Zoltron. It was taken by his 6 year old son. The composition is excellent. Looks like Minitron takes after his Pop when it comes to making killer art. Glad to see a Wax Pack perched on the curio shelf.
Brought to life with a noxious waft of model glue vapor, then raised in a mildewed nest of shag carpet fibers, these creeps are cruddy to the core. This is the first release in my new series of monster merchandise. The line consists of stickers, matchbook mini prints (probably the coolest thing I’ve done) and artist trading cards. You may remember a few months back I did a artist trading card for Letter Pressed. Well I liked the character so much he inspired a whole new creepy crew. You can pick them up in my web site store.

Just finished this piece for Boy’s Life Magazine. The article is about chemists at the Italian company Italcementi that have created TX Active, a building cement that eats smog. TX Active contains titanium dioxide, which dissolves dust and grime on surfaces. Tests show the cement can also reduce nitrogen oxide—a pollutant made by cars—by 60 percent. Plus, it can clean the air up to eight feet away.
Cementi!
Everything sounds better in Italian.
SKETCH TUESDAY – APRIL 30

Last Tuesday was sketch Tuesday again at 111 Minna. There were not as many people attending this time. It was right at the beginning of the swine flu hysteria so maybe people were panicked to be in public. Don’t people know beer kills the flu virus?
I went a little overboard and packed a bunch of materials. BAD MOVE! After a few false starts I ditched everything but the bristol and graphite. I decide at that point I would only do one piece for the night, but I’d do it at a larger scale as opposed to last month when all my drawings were around two and three inches. I sketched out a biomorph and went to work on the shading.

A few hours and a couple of beers later I ended up with this thing in front of me. It looks kind of fluish. Maybe that is why it did not find a home that evening.
